All in! Games at PAX East 2020

27 February, 2020

Boston will be at the center of the gaming universe from February 27 to March 1 as the 2020 edition of PAX East takes over the city for one of the biggest events on the industry calendar!

PAX East 2020 is the third appearance for All in! Games at a PAX event, but our first PAX East after one previous trip to PAX South and one at PAX Seattle. We’re more excited than ever to participate in what has become a “must” not only for devs and publishers, but for fans and gamers around the world. Seeing the amazing spectacle in person is an incredible experience but equally impressive is considering just how far PAX has come in a relatively short time.

How PAX went from local to global

The first edition of what later became known as PAX got off the ground in 2004 near Seattle as the Penny Arcade Expo. The name was taken from a webcomic based on the video game culture, Penny Arcade, started by Jerry Holkins and Michael Krahulik. The Expo was an opportunity to build a regional community among gamers at a time when events like E3 were for industry insiders only.

The response to that first gathering was instant and overwhelming. By just its fourth edition, they had to move to a bigger venue and by the seventh year the attendance exceeded twenty times that of the inaugural 2004 Expo. It was clear that Penny Arcade was delivering exactly the kind of experience gamers wanted.

It was also obvious that the same concept would work beyond the Seattle area.

In 2010, after “Penny Arcade Expo” had morphed into “PAX”, organizers launched a new event on the other side of the country, PAX East in Boston. In its first year, it attracted nearly as many visitors as its well-established cousin in Washington. International expansion followed three years later with the start of PAX Australia and another event, PAX South in San Antonio, Texas, started in 2015.

PAX East 2020

Just sixteen years after that first meeting where about 3,000 gamers gathered in Seattle, PAX organizes five huge must-see conventions—PAX West in Seattle, PAX East in Boston, PAX South in San Antonio and two meetings dedicated to particular communities, PAX Dev for game developers and PAX Unplugged for table-top enthusiasts.

Like other PAX events, PAX East features presentations by big names in the industry, group discussions on hot topics, displays of what’s new and what’s coming along with entertainment of every kind, usually with a gaming twist or flavored with elements popular among those of us who know our way around a console, keyboard or HUD.

The 2020 show in Boston promises to be full of the kinds of spectacles, reveals and general awesomeness we’ve come to expect from PAX events. There will be LAN events, concerts, presentations, demos, cosplay, tons of speedrunner competitions and pretty much everything you can imagine and quite a few things you can’t. See for yourself what a mind-blowing variety is on offer!
