What games to play together on Christmas?

22 December, 2020

All we want for Christmas is couch co-op!

We’re all glad to see 2020 finally come to an end, but let’s not overlook the fact that the last few days of the year are a great time for gamers and gaming.

Why? Well, the time off from work and school gives us a chance to catch up on games we’ve been playing and start on games we’ve been planning on playing. Also, the holidays have always been a time when we get to have fun with new games found under the Christmas tree (and new consoles, too—thanks, Santa!).

On top of that, the Christmas season is the perfect time to pick up a second controller and have fun with family and friends! Nothing adds to the holiday atmosphere like seeing who can get the highest score or finish first, right?

HO-HO-HOW DID YOU BEAT MY SCORE?!?!?!

To help you pick out just the right title for your Christmas crew, we’ve put together a short guide on our Best Christmas Co-op games. There’s something for everybody and all the elves in your workshop are sure to have a great time.

Here’s our list–we checked it twice!

Tools Up!

Home renovations have never been so…covered in spilled paint? Team up and follow the construction blueprints as you renovate homes to match the plans you’ve been given. Coordinate your teamwork to make sure you beat the clock while trying to avoid creating messes, building in the wrong place, using the wrong color, and stepping in lava. Oh, yeah—lava. Renovators of all ages and experience levels can join thanks to a special No Time Limit Mode. You’ve probably never noticed how hard it is to work on a construction site while laughing but you’ll find out in Tools Up!

Red Wings: Aces of the Sky

Satisfy your inner thrill-seeker as you climb into the skies in a WW1 fighter plane to engage in exciting aerial combat! Red Wings: Aces of the Sky transports you back to a time when daring fighter pilots chased enemies through the clouds, relying only on their courage and skill for victory! Get a fellow pilot to join you in the deep and engaging Story Mode or, if you want a little competition to liven things up, play 1 versus 1 to see who is the true Ace of the Sky!

Little Racer

What could possibly be more classic than burning rubber while racing around a track? Little Racer is a throwback to vintage racing games focused on the pure joy of satisfying the need for speed. Nothing can charge up your Christmas get-together like a race for the finish line! Careful, though–those corners can be tricky! Get up to four engines racing on your couch and wait for the green light in 3…2…1…go!

Fort Triumph

What’s better than a quest completed alone? A quest with friends! And it’s possible with Fort Triumph, thanks to Steam Remote Play Together! Warning: it’s not split-screen and each player has their own turn, so play only with people that you actually trust with your life. Christmas is when you find out who your real friends are!

Ghostrunner

Ok, we’re cheating a little here since Ghostrunner doesn’t feature conventional co-op but that doesn’t mean there’s no way to get everyone involved! This is a game that’s all about speed and the faster you can clear a level, the more impressive it is. Trying to beat someone’s runtime will have everyone glued to the screen, either cheering on or, more likely, trying to distract whoever has Ghostrunner’s deadly blade in his hands. On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a lightning-quick trip through the deadly world of Ghostrunner? Why not!
