This update introduces one of the biggest changes we’ve made to Arboria; Mutagens. Let’s take a look at them in slightly more detail. Mutagens change how player enhancement works during runs by adding gameplay modifiers. These could be, for example, healing after a perfect dash, or symbiont damage increases when switching targets. Mutagens are selected when using the enhancement machine in the Lock Room. Each floor has a random set of Mutagens that come in a variety of tiers that determines their potency. If the upgrade machine offers you a Mutagen that you already have, it will upgrade the Mutagen tier instead. It’s also possible to find Mutagens in chests throughout Durnar, you can then switch the Mutagens in the enhancement machine with the Mutagens you’ve acquired. It’s also possible to combine Mutagens in your inventory with essence to reroll them. That’s enough about Mutagens for now so let’s move onto Masks!

The Masked One joins the Village and with him comes another way to adjust your playstyle. Masks let players take a risk by buffing specific stats and debuffing others. These Masks can be purchased from the Masked One and selected before beginning your journey through Durnar.

Speaking of Durnar, the Temples are now unlocked and ready to be explored! Be careful though, the Temples are home to three new Reptliz. Durnar has also received a convenient new feature, Portals. Portals spawn throughout the corridors of the dungeon and allow players to quickly teleport back to them for some convenient exploration. Portals are activated by getting close to them. Once activated, you can teleport through them by holding down the MAP button and selecting the Portal you wish to use. Durnar has also had some changes made to its generation—you can now expect much smaller dungeon layouts with the total room count being reduced.

This update also includes a variety of balance changes, the most important of which is that you can no longer sprint while in combat. Mutations also have been fine-tuned, most of them have had their mana cost reduced, and their damage increased. The default stack size for Veri has been increased to 2000 and Village upgrade costs have been tweaked. For a full list of changes check out our patch notes!

Last but not least, let’s talk about the Halloween Event! The event will run from the 16th of October until mid-November. During the Halloween Event, players will be able to speak to Pumpkinhead in the Village to exchange their current traits for a new spooky one. The new trait, also called Pumpkinhead, spawns Candies around players after they take damage. Candy heals players for a tiny amount of health and it can also be exchanged for Veri when speaking to Pumpkinhead. Pumpkins will also spawn in Durnar. Try smashing some open for a treat…or maybe a trick.

We hope you enjoy this new update. Thank you for playing and  good luck exploring Durnar!
